World Vision provides food and hygiene kits to affected people in quake-hit Haiti

A 7.2-magnitude earthquake rattled Southwestern Haiti on 14 August 2021. The death toll rose to nearly 1,300 on Monday, and at least 5,700 were injured by the quake. World Vision has already conducted rapid assessment in the affected areas, and is responding on the ground by providing clean water and hygiene kits for disease prevention; tents for the homeless people; food for children and families; and protection for vulnerable children. World Vision Hong Kong has initially committed HK$390,000 to respond to the needs of the affected children and families in Haiti. 

In Haiti, more than 60% of the population lives in poverty. Millions of people live on less than US$2 a day. The quake occurred at a particularly untimely moment for the country that has been through a mix of bad circumstances including the COVID-19 pandemic, and the food insecurity threatening more than four million people. 

In the affected areas, the most needed items are food, clean water, shelters, as well as protection for vulnerable children. World Vision calls on members of the public in Hong Kong to support the affected children and families urgently.
